Past Events

The Textile Association (India) with the support of Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) organized Global Textile Congress at Bangkok on 13th to 15th February, 2015 to develop lasting business relations between countries producing textile fibres, fabrics, machineries and carrying out extensive research in all related areas.

The theme of Congress “Global Textile – Opportunities and Challenges in an Integrated World” was very meticulously selected to garner knowledge and expertise of galaxy of eminent speakers of world fame. This international event was conceived two years ago and tremendous efforts were made to achieve success.

The Textile Association (India) clocked a key milestone in its history with the organization of the first ever Global Textile Conference (GTC) in Bangkok. The 3-day GTC has successfully organized with an overwhelming delegate response from not only from India but also from other Asian nations, including Thailand.

The first ever World Textile Conference was held under the aegis of Textile Association (India) -Central office, with the support of Institute of Chemical technology (formerly known the UDCT) and Office of The Textile Commissioner. The support of the Textile, Apparel and Retail Garment Industries was enormous and the enthusiasm of the delegates attending this conference was simply over whelming. To begin with the Welcome address was given by Mr. D.R. Mehta, President, TM where as and Mr. Arvind Sinha, Conference Chairman, gave the background of the conference.

After the grand success of the First World Textile Conference held in the city of Mumbai in the year 2011 and excellent response thereafter from the technocrats, industrialists, manufacturers, traders, educationist from the participating countries as well as local Govt. dignitaries prompted the Textile Association (India) to take up the challenge of organizing the World Textile Conference-2.

World Textile Conference-2 was organized at Mumbai, India by the Textile Association (India) (TAI) on 16th & 17th September, 2016 at Sahara Sapphire, Mumbai with the help of Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) as Knowledge Partner to deliberate upon the global theme “World Textiles — Growth & Great Opportunities” under the dynamic leadership of National President TAI , Mr. Arvind Sinha. This Conference was enthusiastically attended by luminaries from textile and allied sectors from about twenty countries making it truly a World Textile Conference.

Conference Theme

World Textiles – Redefining Strategy

Textile Industry over thousands of years have been playing a major positive role in the growth of civilization. Wool, Flax and few other natural fibers took the initiative that was eventually taken over by Cotton. Till 12th Century, India led the path of development of cotton cultivation, textile manufacturing and product development. Egypt, China, Peru and others followed India. In the 16th Century Cotton turned out to be the most important item in the world trade. Historians observed “In shaping markets and serving fashion, Indian cotton prepared global consumer markets for the modern industrial age”.

The first step in Strategy formation challenging the then leadership came from UK through the 19th century Industrial revolution. For more than two centuries, textile manufacturing and fashion shifted towards the western world led by Europe and USA. Population growth and availability of raw material took center stage in the strategy development which happened through development of man-made fibers primarily through commercial emergence of cellulosics.

Two consecutive world wars and particularly the World War II brought in radical changes in the product needs and in turn the technology. Man-made Synthetics emerged with the advent of Polyamide followed by Polyester, Acrylics, Polypropylene etc. In the beginning of 70’s, Polyester took the lead in the global fiber consumption scenario. Thanks to growth in population, limitations of natural raw materials pushed the development to third stage of defining strategy. The reuse of fibers, yarns, fabrics and garments through recycling played an important role in circular economy with the intent of containing the growing population needs in the recent decade.

Over the ages, continued defining and redefining of strategy lead to massive growth of Industry giving birth to new raw material, technology, and novel applications. Computer science and lately Artificial intelligence made all the strategic decision sustainable and highly pervasive.

The proposed World Textile Conclave (3) attempts to address key strategic changes in manufacturing, marketing, trade, policies & research to look at the process and steps for Industry to be future ready. We expect a major participation from Industry & Technology leaders, Trade Bodies, Education & Financial Institutions, Policy Makers, Researchers and Economists from within & outside the country at the ensuing World Textile Conclave (3).
